Scout Studios

Scout Studios, nestled in the heart of Redfern, is a fresh and vibrant space dedicated to fostering creativity, community, and personal growth through a range of expert-led classes and immersive experiences. We recently had the pleasure of speaking with Lucy, the Founder and Owner of Scout Studios, about the new space.

1. Tell us about your new studio and location, what was the inspiration behind it?

Our brand-new Redfern studio is a two-level, four-studio oasis, perfectly positioned at the corner of Chalmers and Redfern Streets and opposite a park (a Scout signature)! I knew the space from when it formerly housed Body Mind Life - it has a beautiful energy and we knew it was time to expand. After a lot of hard work, blood, sweat (and maybe a few tears) it came together! It features two dedicated reformer studios—one of which, aptly named The Treehouse, sits among the treetops overlooking the park—along with a serene yoga studio and a versatile mat/barre studio.

For the first time, we’re also introducing a dedicated wellness space, complete with a custom-built traditional sauna and two ice baths. The studio is designed to feel open and airy, with large windows flooding the space with natural light. Timber verandahs wrap around the internal side of the building, leading to a spacious courtyard perfect for unwinding before or after class. To me it feels deliciously "Aussie".

Inside, our signature crisp white studios are complemented by warm timber finishes, soft curves, and a palette of greens and neutral tones in the communal areas. It’s a true oasis—whether you’re looking to move, rest, or connect.

2. What can people expect when walking into a Scout Studios location?

A warm welcome!

3. What is unique/ different about your studios?

With over 65 classes per day across our three locations—St Peters, Marrickville, and Redfern—there’s truly something for everyone! Our diverse schedule includes reformer, mat Pilates, yoga, and barre, offering 22 unique class styles. From gentle flows to heated sessions, strength-focused workouts to foundational essentials, we cater to all levels and movement preferences, creating a welcoming space for a diverse community.

4. What kind of community do you want to cultivate?

One that is conscious, kind, and connected. We love providing a space where you can unplug from your phone and reconnect with your body—whether that means meeting a new friend, joining a workshop, or simply taking a moment for yourself.

5. What does practicing movement mean to you?

What does movement mean to you? For me, it’s about moving in a way that feels natural and good for my body. With a young child, consistency is key—but that doesn’t always look the same. Some days, it’s a walk around the park with my dog, Ollie; other days, it’s a calming yoga session or a strength-focused reformer class. And honestly, sometimes it’s canceling a class (always the night before to let someone else in!) and enjoying a well-earned sleep-in. It’s all about tuning in and honoring what feels right in the moment.

6. Where is your favourite place to get coffee nearby the Redfern studio?

Breadfern—just across the road, we’re so lucky to have this amazing bakery café right at our doorstep! If you're looking for a recommendation, the green smoothie is a must-try, and if you're in the mood for a treat, the chocolate croissant is pure indulgence!
