To celebrate the Australian Open we flew to Melbourne to spend some time with Brisbane based Tennis star Priscilla Hon. Priscilla is of course best known for her amazing achievements in the tennis world but she also has a great love for travel, food and fashion. In between games Priscilla took the time to talk to us about her career and gave us some of her top picks around the world for food and travel.

New Season - Resort

At what age did you start playing tennis?

I started tennis at the age of 5. Tennis is a sport you have to start at a really young age!

What made you fall in love with tennis?

I started playing because I would go along with my dad on weekends while he played socially with his friends. I started hitting in between their drink breaks and loved it from the start. I would hit the ball at home for hours with earphones in.

Was there a particular tennis player that you looked up to or inspired you when you were growing up?

I looked up to Roger Federer and Justine Henin. I love how much variety they had in their game.

How do you find ways to carve time for yourself/relax during the tennis season?

Going for a walk or sitting at a coffee shop with my headphones on is my way of relaxing.. I’m quite a social person but if I don’t get time for myself I get really drained very quickly.

What is your favourite court to play on in the world?

My favourite court I’ve played on is the Louis Armstrong station at the US Open.

Elsa Crochet Mini Dress                                                                            Peached Harley Bra                                                                                      Les Border Freya Knit Pant

You travel the world so much. What is your favourite city to visit? Can you give us your top 5 things to do in that city?

My favourite at the moment is New York. Last year I had a week off at the end of the year and I flew there for 5 days, that’s how much I love it. My top 5 things to do there are getting a coffee and sitting at Central Park. Obviously I’m a big foodie and the food scene there is insane, there’s so much to choose from. I love that each little district has its own character. Also the fashion, it can be so out there but it just works and I feel like that rubs off with the way I dress too. I also love how fast the pace is there, I feel like I have so much energy when I’m there. The city never sleeps and I love that it can be a Monday night and everything is happening still.

Where is home for you?

Home for me is Brisbane but I’m away 8-9 months of the year.

From looking at your Instagram you seem like a real foodie. What are your top 5 restaurants, cafes, markets around the world to eat at?

To choose only 5 I’d have to say

  • Agnes - Brisbane

  • Tatiana - New York

  • Monsieur Bleu - Paris

  • Bar Cañete - Barcelona

  • Osteria Pastella - Florence

Do you have a favourite song you’re listening to at the moment?

I listen to a broad variety depending on my mood but right now one of my favourites is Somedays by Sonny Fodera, Jazzy, D.O.D

How would you describe your fashion style?

I would describe it as a mix between comfortable but stylish. I love silk so much, so I own a lot of silk pieces. Also because I travel so much and live out of a suitcase I can’t travel with too much and silk is super light. My go-to looks are oversize pants with a crop and a blazer and I try to dress it up with accessories.

Do you have any other loves or hobbies outside of tennis? We noticed that you have a vintage section on your Instagram?

Yes! So obviously I have a huge love for food but I can’t be eating all the time unfortunately. So when I’m not eating I love going to vintage markets wherever I am in the world to find unique pieces. I started Perenne Vintage because I thought it would be fun to make these one of a kind pieces available to everyone.
