From the beginning, THE UPSIDE has understood that how we move through the world matters. Whether that impact is personal, social or environmental  - we are accountable for what we put out into the universe. We are continually striving to ensure our actions are as honourable as our intentions. That being said, we do not and cannot claim to be perfect - we are very much a work in progress and there is always room for improvement. The road is long but we remain open and committed to learning how we can get where we need to be, not only for the sake of this beautiful, blue planet but also for the health & happiness of our global community.

It’s not enough to simply profess our principles, we must actively defend them. THE UPSIDE is doing our part to bring about lasting and meaningful change through the following initiatives:

CAMBODIAN CHILDREN’S TRUST

From our very first day of trading right through to the present, we donate a portion of every garment sold to Cambodian Children’s Trust. Cambodian Children’s Trust is a non-profit child protection organisation based in Battambang, Cambodia that draws on a community-led ‘Village Hive’ model to empower and enable vulnerable families to stay together. Beyond simply protecting them, Cambodian Children’s Trust also works to help enable the brightest future possible for these children by providing the necessary support, resources and opportunities to achieve transformational change.

SUSTAINABILITY

This beautiful blue planet gives us so much - joy, peace and adventure. We have taken the following measures to nurture and protect this privilege:

  • Keeping it clean. Tanks and loop-back cotton garments from THE UPSIDE CORE are made from Certified Organic cottons.
  • What goes around, comes around.. Wherever possible we work with recycled yarns. Beyond this, we are committed to trialling new-to-market recycled fabrications with the ongoing aim of increasing our use of recycled materials.
  • Made to last. We are anti  ‘fast fashion’ in our approach - we are not a one summer fling, our premium quality products are in it for the long haul. The integrity and durability of our designs not only means Upsiders get maximum wear/joy from their purchases, but it also ensures we are minimising our contribution to landfill and other environmental dilemmas.
  • We break it down. All of THE UPSIDE packaging is recycled and/or biodegradable.

BE YOU

We believe wholeheartedly in the beauty and power of diversity. You don’t need to be more like this and less like that - you just need to BE YOU. This simple message of fierce self-love is amplified through our #BEYOU social media campaign - an initiative designed to empower our community to accept and own their authentic self no matter what.

MENTAL HEALTH & RUOK?

THE UPSIDE is committed to shining a light on mental health. We believe that true wellness goes beyond toned limbs and green smoothies; engaging in meaningful conversation and taking positive action that serves and nurtures our mental health is a fundamental need of every Upsider. It’s for this reason we are longstanding champions and retail partners of the R U OK Day initiative - openness, empathy and camaraderie are imperative to the collective wellbeing of our global community. Our founder Jodhi is a proud R U OK Day ambassador and each year we release a limited edition Muscle Tank with proceeds donated to the R U OK organisation.

KINDNESS, INCLUSIVITY & RESPECT

We mean business when it comes to promoting and practicing Kindness, Equality, Inclusivity and Respect at every level and every aspect of THE UPSIDE. Where we can use our platform and resources to further champion these essential principles amongst our wider community, we do. We are completely in awe of our LGBTIQA+ community. To honour and support them, we celebrate Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras with designated capsule collections, with proceeds then donated to Twenty10. Twenty10 is a NSW-based service for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and gender diverse, non-binary, intersex, questioning, queer, asexual and ople and others of diverse genders and sexualities, their families and communities. Twenty10 provides a broad range of specialised services for young people 12-25 including housing, mental health, counselling and social support.
