Studio Spotlight: House of Motion with
studio Owner, Karen Logan

Karen Logan, owner and studio manager, leads House of Motion in Miami, a space that fuses high-energy training with mindful mat Pilates. The studio delivers strength, alignment, and recovery in every class, all within a grounding, welcoming environment that fosters community and balance.

  1. What inspired you to found House of Motion?

Founding House of Motion has been a dream I’ve carried for as long as I can remember. I’ve always known I wanted to create something in the wellness and fitness space, and every experience along the way helped shape the vision to what it ended up becoming!

It was initially quite a fast turn around, when we took the opportunity to open, but having so many ideas already helped us!

I fell in love with Mat Pilates, and with a background in group training and reformer pilates, I felt like there was nowhere that truly blended the best parts of all modalities.

I wanted to build a studio where people didn’t need to juggle multiple workouts to feel strong, aligned and supported, a place where you could get everything you need in one intentionally designed class.

House of Motion was born from that idea: fusing the strength and intensity of higher-energy training with the mindfulness, control and stillness of Pilates. A space that delivers results, but also feels grounding, modern, and uplifting the moment you walk in.

2. How would you describe the unique philosophy or experience that House of Motion offers?

Our philosophy is built on creating a space that feels warm, welcoming and genuinely homely (that’s where we got the name) A place where people feel comfortable, supported and excited to move. We’re known for our unique class structure: a fusion of traditional mat Pilates and higher intensity functional strength that delivers results while still honouring mindful movement.

The experience goes beyond the workout. We’ve designed every detail of the studio to feel immersive - from the aesthetic interiors to the dimmed lighting, the signature scent and the music that energises the room, we’ve created a space where you can fully switch off from the outside world and drop into a class that feels purposeful.

3. You offer different classes like “Fusion”, “Fire”, “Melt” and so on. How did those class types evolve? What was the thinking behind developing them?

The class structure was created very intentionally. From the beginning, I wanted every client to clearly understand what each class was designed for, so they could plan their week, support their goals and move with purpose. Creating structure was important, not just for programming, but for helping people find balance across strength, intensity, stability and recovery.

Having this structure offers the members variety whilst still feeling cohesive day by day. Each one has its own personality, whether it’s a higher-intensity day, a strength-focused session or a slower, restorative reset. Together it creates a well-rounded feeling, and helps clients get all of their training in one place!

4. How has your own movement journey shaped the way you design classes and connect with your members?

Having been in the fitness industry for over 10 years now, my own journey has played a huge part. I’ve always loved coaching/teaching/attending group classes. This is where my love for the overall customer experience comes from, as I feel I really understand all the little things that make a difference.

I’ve also been through the phase of doing all the high-intensity workouts, overtraining and thinking more was always better. Like so many people, I lived in that “bulk cardio, train harder, train more” mindset. But the shift happening in the wellness world towards intention, balance and listening to your body has influenced me massively, and I have personally felt the benefits. That evolution helped shape House of Motion’s programming. Our classes are designed to challenge strength, stability and endurance, but equally to lower cortisol, calm the mind and support recovery. It’s movement that feels good, and is sustainable long term!

5. What do you think sets House of Motion apart in creating a community around movement and wellness, rather than just providing a workout?

Community is one of our number one business values. Having moved to Australia around 11 years ago, some of my BEST friends have been made either working or training in fitness studios. I understand how having a support network, and a social community of like-minded people, can help you stay consistent and make the journey so much more fun. One of my huge goals for the studio, was to always give back to our community and we do lot’s of events, collaborations, giveaways, wellness challenges, and workshops to give more than just the workouts.

6. What advice would you give to someone who is new to Pilates or a “heated mat‑Pilates fusion” environment, and perhaps feeling intimidated or unsure?

I completely understand the feeling, starting anything new can be daunting, especially in a studio that brings the energy like ours. The biggest thing I want people to know is that our instructors are the best on the Gold Coast, and they offer plenty of options, layers and modifications throughout the entire class. You’re always in control of your workout - your body, your choice! When you do arrive for your first class, your instructor will talk you through everything you need to know, and once class begins the room is dark, cosy and super welcoming, so you never feel like eyes are on you. Take your first class slower, allow yourself to settle in, and don’t forget water, especially for the heated sessions, along with a towel and grippy socks!

7. What are your goals or vision for House of Motion over the next 3‑5 years? Are there new class types, expansions, partnerships or innovations you’re excited about?

We would love to expand House of Motion, and open a 2nd, 3rd (hey maybe even a 4th location!) Whilst our principles and branding will stay consistent across studios, we’d love each location to have their own unique touches, to make it extra special for their community!

8. On a more personal note: what keeps you motivated, what do you do to stay inspired in your own movement practice, and how do you recharge outside the studio?

For me, it’s all about longevity and living life to the fullest! In my 30’s now, I am really focussed on being able to stay as fit as I can, for as long as I can. Feeling mentally and physically strong so that I can continue to do the things I love, and live such a fulfilling limit-free life! That’s what keeps me consistent in my training. Out-with the studio, beach walks with my two puppy dogs, or listening to a podcast lying by the pool is what re-charges me! (Some say I’m solar powered!)
